Canada’s economy is projected to grow 0.8 per cent this year, the Canadian Bureau of Statistics said Wednesday.
That would be its fastest annual gain in five years.
Economists polled by Bloomberg had forecast a 1.7 per cent increase.
The economy expanded by 1.2 per cent last year and is forecast to expand by 0.6 per cent next year, according to a report released Wednesday by the National Bureau of Economic Research.
The recovery has been helped by the strong U.S. economy, which has added more than 2.6 million jobs since the beginning of the year, Statistics Canada said.
