Gardenia Foods, Inc. said Tuesday that it sold its fertilized eggs for $1,800, making it the largest seller of fertilized chickens in the U.S. for the year, surpassing its record-holder, KFC, for the first time.
The company said it sold a total of 6,735 fertilized and ready-to-eat eggs, valued at $3.8 million.
The company has more than 11,500 egg producers, according to its website.
Gardenia Foods sold its egg for $2,000 per egg.
The average price for fertilized, ready-tasting eggs is $2.70 per egg, according an estimate by the USDA.
